Leon Chudzinski has been thoughtfully installing the exhibition to reflect Rita Rosen Poley’s vision. Her selections and planning have been in the works over the past year. As the Temple Judea Museum’s director and curator, she continues to bring forward meaningful exhibitions that inspire and share the richness of the museum’s collection.
If you’re planning to attend, come early for historical readings beginning at 4:30 PM. From 5:00–6:30 PM, TJM Artists Collaborative member, Irina Bakis will be performing piano music: From Sea to Shining Sea.
A special thank you to Karen Shain Schloss, our TJM Chair for another wonderful sign for the exhibition!

Our current exhibition, Woodcut Metamorphosis : A Century of Cultural Struggle as Expressed by Jewish Printmakers.

Leon Chudzinski was our guest curator. A quote from his curator's statement: "As we begin celebrating America 250, I want to emphasize the diverse cultural experiences, struggles, and values that shaped our community and this country. I found a voice in the woodcut collection of TJM and the generosity of KI members who both created and loaned works for this exhibition."

Leon explains the technique of making a woodcut: "Carving the image into the flat wood surface, the artist builds a relationship with, and gains inspiration from, the wood block. The wood’s grain, hardness, cut and species can influence a work with expressive organic patterns sometimes unseen until the image is printed, providing both challenge and revelation for the artist."

IIf you haven’t had a chance to see the exhibition yet, there is still time to visit before it closes on March 25, 2026. We think you’ll especially enjoy it if you’re not familiar with the art of woodcuts — it’s a wonderful opportunity to experience the process and beauty of this medium.

The last hostages are finally home. It was time to take down the wall of support that had greeted visitors to our building for the last two years. We still pray for the recovery of the bodies of the loved ones who will never return to the lives stolen from them.
May their memory be a blessing!
Thank you to the TJM friends who helped dismantle the installation of the photographs of the hostages taken on October 7, 2023.

Yesterday, TJM beautifully decorated the KI Sukkah with vibrant banners adorning the walls and unique doves hanging gracefully from the rooftop.
A heartfelt thank-you to all the members of the TJM Artists Collaborative and our invited artist friends who created these stunning works of art—each piece adds color, spirit, and inspiration to the sukkah.

We are also deeply grateful to Nomi, Lev, and Robyn for their help in displaying the banners and doves, and to KI’s maintenance crew for building the structure and installing the new rooftop covering—it looks fabulous!

The sukkah will remain up throughout the week. We hope you’ll stop by, sit inside, and enjoy the beauty and creativity that fill this special space.

Warmly,
Rita, Karen, Morty, Leon, and Marlene
Planning Team for the Sukkah

In this work by TJM volunteer, artist Jan Marshall, Jan has taken a delightful contemporary Menorah gifted to he museum by Hazzan David and Ellen Tilman and overlaid it with a scene of the Temple Menorah carved on Rome’s Arch of Titus. Thus she connects our celebrations today with our commemoration of the destruction of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.

TJM Collaborative artist Joan Myerson Shareger has turned her attention to this wonderful ceramic Tsedakah box by artist Emmett Leader that is part of our TJM collection. While Leader was inspired by the shtetl world as envisioned by Marc Chagall, Joan takes us on a delightful visual journey far removed from the world of the shtetl with her interpretation of Leader's Tsedakah box.
