(Re)introducing our buildings!

The Accokeek Foundation cares for several unique historic structures at Piscataway Park.

These buildings allow us to tell the stories of this land and the people who have lived and worked on it for generations. As our programming has evolved, so has our interpretation of these buildings.

In honor of National Preservation Month, we’re spotlighting our partnership with funders like the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority to restore and maintain these important parts of Southern Maryland heritage.

This Earth Month was a wonderful one with our volunteers! From the beginning til the end of April, they were doing honorable & healing work removing debris from the Potomac shoreline.

We are grateful for the community support and participation to care for places like Piscataway Park, so thank you Potomac Appalachian Trail Club - PATC, Tanger Outlets, Prince George's County Office of Community Relations, and each of our individual volunteers for being a part of our community!

And thank you to the “unseen ones” of our community who pick up litter during your leisure time at the park ❤️

While Earth Month has come to a close, this isn’t the last time we’ll be hitting the shoreline. Our next clean-up will be May 24, 10:00AM – 11:30AM. Sign up here: https://volunteer.bloomerang.co/volunteer/ #/shift-selection?k=njcr5ytl2frkg8

See you then!

When passionate people come together in service of place, preservation, and future generations, meaningful impact is possible.

We were honored to stand alongside the National Park Foundation and nonprofit partners from across the country yesterday as we met with congressional leaders to advocate for critical funding for our national parks.

Special thanks to Senator Chris Van Hollen for his commitment to protecting our public lands, and to the dedicated staff who shared their time to discuss the urgent funding needs facing parks and communities nationwide.

How will you be celebrating this year?

Join us this weekend in Piscataway Park for three different ways to honor the planet.

On Saturday morning, Patuxent Riverkeeper Fred Tutman will be speaking at the Justice in Place workshop (10 a -12:30 p).

Saturday afternoon, from 12-3 pm, "Planetarium" Patty Seaton and the Maryland National Heritage Area are joining us for an Earth Day Open House. Enjoy earth friendly games and activities at the Visitor Center.

On Sunday, pitch in and pick up during a Potomac River Shoreline Cleanup.

Find out more about all of these events on accokeek.org!

The Patuxent River is a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay and the largest and longest river entirely within Maryland. Its 900-square-mile watershed is also the largest completely within the state, extending into seven counties. The river lies between the Patapsco River to the northeast, which passes t...
