It was a cold and windy day at Thunderfest, but still a pleasure to be out serving the local community.

We had Adams’ favorite SBA Reenactor Muriel Dyas, Spring intern Faith Motta, and gift shop manager Kristen Demeo brave the weather for Susan! 💪

Faith Motta (pictured middle) started as a volunteer in 2021, and today she is our spring intern studying Education at UMass Amherst.

Faith is currently developing engaging activities for student field trips (grades 9-12), aiming to make sure each school visit to the Birthplace meets curriculum standards for teachers.

We’re grateful to have Faith as part of our team this spring and summer!

This Women’s History Month, we reflect on Susan B. Anthony and the women who shared in her work. Notice the many photos of women that adorn her desk.

Together, they studied, organized, and committed themselves to something larger than their own time.

A movement built not by one voice, but by many.

We celebrate each and every one of them this month, and invite you to join us in doing the same.

Visit the Susan B. Anthony Birthplace, open every weekend, and to learn more about how Susan tirelessly fought for the rights of women. 💜💛

All aboard the Democracy Limited! Join us this Sunday in Adams as Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum takes us on a journey back to 1919.

The performance is based on the 1919 nationwide train tour of the "Democracy Limited." Twenty-six middle-class women toured the country, visiting fifteen cities to share their experience in prison and promote women’s suffrage. They dressed in prison attire and told stories about their experience, performed scenes, and gave speeches. Citizens were appalled at what these women endured, and this tour helped drive final push towards women's voting rights.

A final farewell and thank you to Meara McClusky & Jessica Packard, our wonderful summer interns!

They both helped execute our July 4th events, while Meara created a new DIY Zine event, advanced next year's special exhibit, and led our Afternoon Tea series. Jessica orchestrated our summer fundraising campaign, installed legacy bricks, and built a little free library in the shape of the museum. We are grateful for their great work and innovation.

Jessica is a senior at Skidmore College studying Arts Administration, and Meara is a senior as well at St. Lawrence University studying History & Anthropology. We look forward to seeing where they go next!

On Women’s Equality Day, Board members of the Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum visited the Women's Rights National Historical Park to honor the legacy of the suffragists who gathered in Seneca Falls and ignited a movement for women’s equality.

Did you know that the Seneca Falls Women's Rights Convention was organized at a tea? On July 9, 1848, five key members of the American women’s suffrage movement met for tea in Waterloo, New York. The participants in the tea party were Lucretia Mott, Martha Wright, Mary Ann McClintock, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and hostess Jane Hunt. The setting was the Hunts’ house, modest yet comfortable, with a red velvet sofa, a map of the United States on the wall, six parlor chairs drawn around the tea table and Jane’s best teapot, cups and saucers.

Our Museum President recently visited the Alva Belmont House, where in 1914 Mrs. Belmont hosted the Conference of Great Women at the Marble House. Among the treasures on display—porcelain tableware bearing the “Votes for Women” theme, created for the luncheon service that helped raise funds for the suffrage movement.

Our special exhibit, running through October 31st features Alva Belmont's Chinese Tea House, replica Votes for Women Tea Set, and the women who spoke at the 1914 conference. We also hold monthly teas in the tradition of that conference, the next is September 27th!

We are pleased to announce that we have received an increase to our annual Operating Grants for Organizations courtesy of the Mass Cultural Council . The grant is now $10,400.

Thanks to vigorous advocacy from the cultural sector, both the Healey-Driscoll Administration and the State Legislature showed strong, bipartisan support for the Mass Cultural Council , and its programs and services in the FY26 state budget.

The Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum, Inc. will be listed in the Agency's publicity materials. We are grateful for this commitment from the state of Massachusetts to our museum and the important preservation & education work we provide to Berkshire County and beyond.
