New Haven 41 is not lost. 💙

On Saturday, October 24, a fire broke out and damaged our beloved New Haven 41 rail diesel car. Thankfully, no one was hurt. Our deepest thanks to the Adams Fire Department and all the first responders who acted so fast to put out the fire.

Seeing a car our volunteers have spent years restoring look like this is painful. But early assessments show that a full repair and restoration are possible, and we are committed to bringing New Haven 41 back to the rails.

With the 41 sidelined, our volunteers are now racing to finish restoring Boston & Maine 6126 in time for the Tinseliner this holiday season.

🎄 Have Tinseliner tickets? All rides, November 27 through December 19, remain scheduled as planned. We’ll contact you directly if anything changes.

“While this fire was a heavy blow, our spirit isn’t broken,” said Executive Director Melanie Seiden. “Our entire volunteer crew is rolling up their sleeves to pull off nothing short of a holiday miracle.”

🎃 LAST CALL FOR THE PUMPKIN PATCH! 🚂

This weekend is your final chance to ride the Pumpkin Patch Excursion this season. Climb aboard our restored vintage Budd cars for a narrated hour on the rails between Adams and North Adams. Every child gets to hand-pick a pumpkin to take home.

It’s a fall tradition in the making, and it only comes around once a year. Bring the kids, bring the camera, and make a memory before the season turns to Tinseliner time.

A sold-out night on the rails, and we have Robert Oakes to thank for it. 👻🚂

On Saturday night, every seat aboard Chilling Tales on Mysterious Rails was filled. Robert, paranormal storyteller and author, held a full train spellbound with the strange history of the Berkshires as our vintage Budd cars rolled through the dark between Adams and North Adams. Earlier that afternoon, he also read ghost stories to our youngest riders.

Robert, thank you for the stories and the shivers. We loved seeing the night through your lens and are so glad you shared this photo of the train.

Calling all little ghost hunters! 👻🎃 The adult Chilling Tales ride sold out, but there’s still room on Saturday’s children’s ride with author Robert Oakes. This Saturday, October 17, I'll be sharing local ghost lore aboard one of the vintage trains operated by the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum. The 6pm adult ride is sold out, but there are STILL SEATS AVAILABLE FOR THE CHILDREN'S RIDE at 2pm. Depart from the station in Adams, journey through the historic Hoosac Valley up to North Adams, step off the train into pumpkin a patch where kids can hand-pick their favorite pumpkin to take home, then enjoy the scenic rail-ride back to Adams.
