Public Art Rule no. 02 - IT’S NOT FOREVER

From there here-today-gone tomorrow of a “one day sculpture” to the growth of a future library over 100 years, artists are shaking up the life expectancy of public artworks. Places don’t remain still and unchanged, so why should public art?

Demand new rules for public art now! An organisation born in Bristol, UK, Situations reimagines what public art can be and where and when it can take place. We like to think and reflect on what hap...

Matteo Rubbi draws inspiration from the Navajo legend where a coyote addresses the First Man, who is busy arranging stones as stars in the sky. The coyote says to him: “Let the stars sit wherever they will.”

Rubbi's reproduction of mountains in the solar system rendered at a 1:100000 scale speaks to us about cosmology, myth, emblems and ritual.

Opening Reception 12/7/13 at 5pm - 11pm. See works by Nancy Williams and Bob Peck. Live art at 8pm. Live blues by The Help 8:30-10:30pm.

PECK'S work combines elements of street art/graffiti and more traditional abstract painting – balancing precise line quality and draftsmanship with expressive brushstrokes and diagonal lines, forms and swirls created with aerosol cans.

Peck’s style captures the aesthetic zeitgeist of contemporary, urban culture – evolving abstract painting to an almost futuristic degree. You can catch glimpses of his work on exterior walls around Cleveland & Akron - including the Zoetic Walls mural project on Waterloo Road in Collinwood, Art City at The Agora and the We Gallery.

WILLIAMS pays an homage to the intricate street art in NEO as she travels the depths of abandoned structures to find history juxtaposed by messages full of controversy... an admiration of beauty as it stands.

The genius of a creative mind is that it does not stop at embellishment; a creative mind will not hesitate to destroy in order to create anew. Nancy's work celebrates the beauty of the artists that dare to radically destroy and transform for the sake of creation.

In many urban environs dilapidated underground worlds become a canvas for creation. Nancy captures the art in these abandoned spaces; rendering the abstract beauty for our visceral pleasure.
