Studio 23 and local artists sadly say goodbye to artist and friend, Judith Threadgill
Judith had been a part of the Studio 23 Gallery community for over 10 years. She was known for her love of collage, mixing images of life’s beautiful, mysterious and mystical oddities into haunting, memorable artworks that were adored by patrons as well as local artists.
Judith also enjoyed adding fine art to her infamous collection at home almost as much as she enjoyed making art. Many of us are so proud to be a part of that collection. If you were ever lucky enough to visit her at home, you definitely got “the tour” through her home which was much more like a museum. She was incredibly proud of and cherished every single piece of art she invested in over the years. There was always a story or an interesting artist to describe and delight in behind each masterpiece. She particularly was fond of eyes! I will never see an artwork involving eyes that does not make me think of Judith.
Judith loved being out and about town, especially at art shows around the East Bay and whenever we would be with her or run into her, she was always introducing us to someone new. So many cherished friendships were prompted by her introductions.
Judith particularly enjoyed being part of the Studio 23 BlackLight Art Show which she would always attend. Judith showed up enthusiastically, often with her partner Bob, helping her load in her latest artworks. When Judith couldn't make it, Bob (and sometimes fellow artist and dear friend Terrie Schultz) made sure her work made it into the show.
We spent these art show events sitting around a table or lounging on the couch just “being” together, talking about art and chatting with locals. All of us, this made up family of artists and art lovers would talk into the night enjoying Judith's famous wine cake that she baked especially for these events.
Judith was a special person to both me and my partner at Studio 23 and she meant so much to so many artists. Below we share a few of her art pieces and photos from over the years.
Thank you Judith for being a part of our lives and the Studio 23 community. You will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by so many.
