Bill Brennan, executive director of the ASRT Museum and Archives has acquired two vintage artifacts that are now on display. The first is a 1930s shoe fitting fluoroscope commonly seen in shoe stores during that time. When you look through any of the viewing ports at the top of the wood cabinet, you'll see a fluorescent image of the bones of the feet, similar to what customers saw when it was in use. Customers during that time were irradiated and saw the bones through their shoes!
The second artifact is a Stanford Consultation Stereoscope from the 1950s. This device produced a 3D view of the body's internal structures by combining two x-ray images taken from slightly different angles. You can turn it on to view a radiograph of an alarm clock. A special thank you to Bob Geiser, R.T.(R)(M)(QM), and Robert B. Lombardo, B.S., R.T.(R). Learn more about these newly acquired artifacts by visiting the museum!

Did you know in 1944 Raymond Pfeiffer developed a contact lens made with tiny lead markers? When radiographed, the lenses gave an approximate location of a foreign body in the eye. These pictures are part of the ASRT Museum and Archives' collection. If you look closely, you can see the little LED dots embedded in the lens.
