Frogbrain Ventures, Inc. This historical site will attempt to present and share the amazing and sometimes unbelievable history of Frogbrain Ventures, Inc. and its Founding Mothers.

"unearth the unique, leave the remainder untouched"

These words still guide our venture and were first spoken by our Founding Mothers (at an undisclosed location due to the war) during an unusually cold winter in 1943. Each of these amazing women brought an undiminished sense of self and love of fellowship. We remain ever grateful for their strength, wisdom and vision. We miss them more and more

with every passing day. The Management. In closing here are a few choice words to remember. Frogbrain believes an honest story told well is far superior to truth or lies and that unfound treasures exist. Remember that if our paths ever cross.

This shot of The Big Three, Winston Churchill, Franklin D Roosevelt and Joseph Stalin was taken in February 1945 during the Yalta Conference, their second and final wartime summit. This landmark meeting of these storied world leaders would lay the groundwork for Germany's unconditional surrender and the creation of the United Nations. It would also become one of the history's prime (and darkest) examples of the Law of Unintended Consequences as the underlying mistrust amongst and between these great men would lay the foundation for the coming Cold War that would shape world events for decades. The improbable founding of Frogbrain would similarly be based on the Law of Unintended Consequences and will be the next chapter in our tale.

This photo, taken September 16, 1961, of a White House meeting between Jacqueline Bouvier's future husband, President John F. Kennedy and Gen. Lucius D. Clay, his representative in Berlin in 1961 and 1962, comes to us from the archives of the Central Intelligence Agency. General Clay was the chief architect of the concept of a "cultural cold war" with the USSR. Clay remains a contentious historical figure most notably for controversially commuting the death sentences of convicted N**i war criminals. This cold war, which began in the closing days of World War II and would continue unabated until 1991, created the fertile business environment in which military contractors and suppliers such as Frogbrain would germinate and thrive.

This charming photo from the Danish National Archive circa 1964 of Hilda and her beautiful daughter, Tilly, brings to mind the seminal report, "Chimpanzee Intelligence Is Heritable" authored by William D. Hopkinsc, Jamie L. Russell, Jennifer Schaeffer. This report posits the following thesis, "It has now become increasingly clear that IQ is heritable in humans, but these effects can be modified by nongenetic mechanisms." Do we find in this study and its conclusion the beginnings of an explanation for how twelve extraordinary young women, ten of whom were raised by single mothers, could and would forge a sisterhood of intellect and drive that would become Frogbrain? In the entire history of the early 20th century stranger things have, of course, happened but not very many, and not very often.

This astonishing portrait (complete with annotations) is dated 8 February 1911 and comes to us from the National Library of Scotland. It depicts Thomas Griffith "Grif" Taylor, the famed British/Australian geographer, anthropologist and explorer, fully outfitted in the typical clothing and survival gear employed by 20th century polar explorers. His extraordinary legend and life are a fitting way to introduce our fifth and final theme, Exploration and Discovery, which will permeate and weave its way throughout our history of Frogbrain. We have now set the stage and are ready for the actors to enter and the action to begin. Buckle in, my friends.

Heart-wrenching photograph of Owney from the Smithsonian Institution circa 1888. Owney was a stray who found his way into the Albany New York Post Office in 1888. The kindly postal clerks let him spend the night amongst the piles of empty and ubiquitous mailbags. By all account Owney was an extremely good-natured animal who was soon traveling alongside his beloved mail sacks and their familiar scents, first onto mail wagons and then mail trains. As time progressed Owney began to accompany the mail bags on the Railway Post Office (RPO) train cars, first across the great state of New York, and then as time progressed, the entirety of our burgeoning country. Legend has it that the RPO clerks adopted Owney as their unofficial mascot, marking his travels by placing medals and tags from his many stops and adventure on his tattered collar. (Owney, of course, marked his travels and adventures in a manner more appropriate to animals of his species that dog owners and lovers know all too well.) We look back in awe at this amazing gentle animal, those who cared for and loved him, and his remarkable story which serves as the introduction to the fourth of five themes in our Odyssey, the Love, Companionship and Care of Dogs, especially those of the stray and rescue variety. This theme allows us to present a number of softer yarns, and feature the more humane and compassionate side of Frogbrain and its Founding Mothers.

A well-composed photo of Mrs. R.P. Stegler from the archives of the Library of Congress circa 1912 whose husband, Richard P. Stegler, was accused of being a German spy. This tragic woman of another age presents an opportunity to introduce our third (and darkest) theme of five: Secrecy and Espionage. N.B. I have received very strict and detailed instructions from my corporate overseers to tread lightly and with great care and clarity as I research and present this theme. Please be patient with this one as each and every post must be side-checked for accuracy by the legal department of Frogbrain prior to being distributed.

Jacqueline Bouvier, who would famously marry John Fitzgerald Kennedy, and blossom into one of the most iconic First Ladies of the 20th century with a beautiful Graphic 4x5 camera and flash circa 1952. It is appropriate that this influential woman allows us to introduce the second of our five recurring themes, Film Photography, Lenses and Optics.

This photo of an elegant gentleman with his Jaguar XK150 circa 1961 introduces us to the first of the five recurring themes (don't worry, the other four will each be revealed in time) that run like the twists and turns of an amazonian river through our chronicle, a deep (bordering on obsessive) love of Jaguar Automobiles. Amazingly, Jaguar cars and their well-known foibles played an outsized role in the history of Frogbrain, going back to the very founding of the firm and continuing through to present day.

Soldiers from the 44th Infantry Division exhibit the true spirit of the holidays by eating a military style open-air Thanksgiving dinner circa 1941. We give thanks to the courageous military men and women who serve and protect our great nation. Please keep all of our veterans and active duty personnel in your hearts and prayers on this very special day.

A very young Robert Oppenheimer and Ernest Orlando Lawrence, the famed nuclear scientist and winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics, on holiday in the early 1930s at Perro Caliente ranch in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range, northeast of Santa Fe, New Mexico circa 1930s. Under the direction of Oppenheimer and Major General Leslie Groves the Manhattan Project, based in Los Alamos, New Mexico, had (contrary to popular belief) no direct connection to Frogbrain. At its zenith the Manhattan Project project employed north of 130,000. If we shift our gaze outside the very secure perimeter of this mammoth undertaking and its eclectic mix of military and civilian personnel and attendant sea of World War II activity we can begin to detect the connection we seek. It is in Albuquerque 60 miles south that we discover the confluence of events, people and place that led to the founding of Frogbrain. The plot thickens.

This polished slab of high-grade uranium ore in Todilto Limestone was mined and photographed at the Frogbrain mine near Grants, New Mexico. circa. 1972. For the good of the planet and future generations let's hope that this type of mining and the use of nuclear energy will reduce dramatically and eventually cease entirely over the coming decades. I encourage all visitors of this page to speak out in support of The Paris Agreement which was signed by 195 countries.
