The “You’re On TV” project is an ongoing art installation begun by artists Kyle Erickson and Zane White in 2013 that focuses on themes of the mass media age. The name originated as an imagined satirical parody of a game show host picking Americans at random to be on their own reality TV show saying, “You’re on TV!” The reality show, it turns out, is actually a reel comprised of the files of inform

ation that have been gathered from years of unwarranted spying on each contestant. This premise became manifested in an ongoing installation that evolved organically through a process of themed exhibitions focusing on different aspects of mass media and television. The project has become an ongoing dialogue exposing the fabricated cultural landscape generated by television and the problematic social convention of spending more time vicariously experiencing people, places, and events through this projected duplicity. If you are interested in being a part of our ongoing projects, email 5 pictures of your work along with a short description of why you want to participate in the group. Artist statements and Bios are a plus. [email protected]

We're looking for more TVs! If you have an old television you want to get rid of, send us a private message and we'll be happy to pick it up and turn it into an interactive art installation at SOMOS ABQ. Thank you to The Harwood Art Center for all their help with this event too.

What is Happening!

Building compositions by fusing a mass of triangles has been a lasting art practice of mine. The Motif takes life through repetitive individual components; Symbolizing the Emergence of Natural Organization, the emergence of form, emergence of content, and the emergence of self-realization. We can see this phenomenon take place in every facet of the universe, including pure iron and nickel molecules that stack upon themselves over millennia in the vacuum of space. Be it a crystalizing meteorite or the development of human cells, the revelation becomes a dictating law of the land. Replicating this process in the art studio is my intent, and a platform in which to express dissent for the continuous repetition of human history.
The desire to be a responsible world citizen needs to be an American obligation. We collectively consume five times the about of global resources available for a sustainable future. The Environmental Crisis takes precedent over all other worldly problems, and is the only threat of the like in which we have never seen. Discouraging unnecessary consumption while promoting the world citizen paradigm fuels my art. The Symbols present in this composition include: American multination corporations guilty of human trafficking, an American ally that beheads woman publicly, a military dependent on perpetual petroleum consumption, a banana company that systematically destabilizes Latin-American countries, cancerous food sheds, media platforms that teach the youth to forgo their accountability, and some of the world’s largest polluters.
Whoever isn’t angered by our reality is misinformed, or worse yet doesn’t care. As an artist, I insist on protesting this energy and hope to inspire younger generations to write a different story. Capitalism allows for the pursuit of happiness, but it provides little more Environmental Regulation than any other Governmental model. By designing sculptures in the public sector, I hope to fuel the grass-root revolution necessary for the changes required. Two weeks after isolating a position in a French art residency program, Donald J. Trump decided to pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement. This served as an immediate affirmation of the importance of my work. Selling most of my possessions to achieve this goal, learning French, and promoting a GoFundMe campaign are all efforts I have taken to represent America in the healthiest manner. By donating money to this cause, you will also be increasing the magnitude of the sculpture I will be fabricating in Vallauris France this November.

Diego Rivera painting the story of the Guatemalan coup.

On in 1954, a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) -sponsored coup overthrew the democratically-elected government of Jacobo Árbenz of Guatemala after he attempted to buy unused land from the United Fruit Company at market rates and give it to starving, landless peasants. Following the coup d'etat, the US installed the military dictator Carlos Castillo Armas.
