⭐ Do you love reading historic fiction? Join the Carlyle House staff quarterly for our free historical fiction book club. All books will be focused on 18th Century America and can be found at your local library or bookstore.

Our Next Books will be:
📖 July 18th: Agent 355 by Marie Benedict & 355: The Women of Washington’s Spy Ring by Kit Sergeant (read one or both!)
📖October 17th: The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare

🇺🇸 ON THIS DAY, June 14, in 1775 the Continental Army was established by the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia:

“Resolved, that six companies of expert riflemen [sic], be immediately raised in Pennsylvania, two in Maryland, and two in Virginia; … [and] that each company, as soon as completed [sic], shall march and join the army near Boston, to be there employed as light infantry, under the command of the chief Officer in that army.”

The next day, on June 15, George Washington was unanimously voted in as commander and chief of the newly formed army.

Join our yoga instructor for an hour long Yoga Class on Carlyle House’s Magnolia Terrace. A gentle flow yoga class. We will build heat with sun salutations then progress to balance, deep stretching and finally relaxation. Please bring water, a towel, and a yoga mat. Wear comfortable yoga wear.

The guided tour will explore the historical context of slavery in 18th century Alexandria and the importance of ongoing research efforts. Reservations are required as space is limited.

Discovering Alexandria Architecture Walking Tour

Alexandria has grown from a small town in the 18th century to a bustling small city in the 21st century. Join us for a tour of Alexandria as we explore looking at the various Architecture styles that adorn the city streets and make it one of the best places to live and work. Reservations are required as space is limited. Please wear comfortable shoes for this 1.5 hour guided tour. Tour is held rain or shine unless there is severe weather.

Carlyle House: Self Guided Sundays

$5 per person (children 5 and under are free)
On the third Sunday of every month, explore the first floor of Carlyle House at your own pace. Docents will be available throughout the house if you have questions. Tickets can only be purchased the day of in the museum shop.
