What do you do when you're a maritime museum celebrating your 20th anniversary and America is celebrating its 250th? You recreate "Washington Crossing the Delaware" of course!

Thanks to our friends at Douglas County Historical Society MN, we recreated the famous 1851 painting by Emanuel Leutze. It depicts the surprise campaign by George Washington to attack Hessian forces garrisoned in Trenton, NJ. The crossing of the Delaware River was the first move.

For our recreation we used Uncas, a 1930 Chris-Craft, but Washington and his men used Durham boats. They were double-ended freight boats, 60 feet long, six feet wide, and three feet deep.

We open for the season on May 22! Come and visit us at 205 3rd Ave W, Alexandria, MN.
