And now, for a word from John Heath, Besser Museum’s Planetarium Instructor.
Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary Under the Stars!
Join the celebration in a truly unforgettable way—by looking up! Over the coming weeks, the night sky offers a front-row seat to some stunning celestial events:
🌅 Start at sunset — look west to watch bright Venus drift closer to Jupiter each evening, reaching their closest pairing on June 8–9.
🌌 Planet Parade Alert! From June 11–15, catch a lineup of Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter. Then on June 16–17, a beautiful crescent moon joins the show.
🌠 Enjoy the “no-moon” nights — perfect for spotting the glowing band of our Milky Way galaxy stretching across the sky.
🌕 On June 29, don’t miss the Strawberry Moon, June’s full moon.
🔭 And for early risers: on July 4, look east before sunrise with binoculars to see reddish Mars meet Uranus—a rare and exciting pairing!
