University Museums

University Museums I welcome you to explore all that the Iowa State University, University Museums has to offer!

The origins of Iowa State University can be traced to the State Agriculture Society who petitioned the Iowa General Assembly to annually fund agriculture research. By 1858, state legislator Benjamin Gue introduced a bill proposing the establishment of an agricultural college, and on March 22, 1858 Governor Lowe signed into law a bill authorizing the State Agriculture College and Model Farm. Upon t

he prairie of central Iowa an educational institutional emerged. Built between 1860-64, the Farm House was the first and only structure on the new campus. By 1862 the Morrill Act (Land-grant Act) was signed and Iowa State was designated the state's land-grant institution.
