Take "Arctic Marine Science: Sikuliaq to Shore" beyond the galleries and onto the water during a special six-hour cruise of Resurrection Bay with marine scientists. 🌊

Spend time with oceanographers and marine biologists, hear about their research in Alaska’s ocean waters and ask questions along the way. Experience the marine environment alongside people who study it closely and learn how careful observation and research can reveal more about the waters around us.

No science background is needed. Whether you’re curious about marine research or just want to see a familiar place from a different perspective, the cruise, provided by Major Marine Tours, offers an opportunity to spend time on Resurrection Bay while connecting what you see on the water with ideas explored in "Arctic Marine Science: Sikuliaq to Shore."

89 Alaskans. 89 portraits. 89 responses to one question: Who are you?

During a residency at the Anchorage Museum in summer 2025, artist and author Kip Fulbeck (Kip Fulbeck) photographed people across Anchorage for a new Alaska chapter of The Hapa Project. Together, the portraits and handwritten responses speak to family, experience, identity and belonging.

“The Hapa Project / Alaska” opens Sept. 18 at the Anchorage Museum.

That afternoon, the project continues with you. From 2 to 4 p.m., join Fulbeck for a portrait session in the exhibition gallery. New portraits and handwritten responses will be added to the community display wall throughout the exhibition. 📸

At 6 p.m., Fulbeck joins us for a free artist talk about the ideas, experiences and artistic process behind The Hapa Project, followed by a book signing. ✍️

Bring a vessel, gather flowers and greenery from your yard, and come ready to see familiar plants with a florist’s eye. Paul will guide you from choosing what to cut to bringing it all together in an arrangement. Hosted in partnership with UAF Extension Services.

Looking for an accessible, budget-friendly way to give old clothing and fabric scraps new life? 🪡

CoLab-orations is a monthly workshop for tweens (10-12 years old), teens and adults that provides an opportunity to explore a specific material or skill in-depth. This month, join Museum staff to learn kinusaiga, the forgiving and relaxing Japanese art of “painting with fabric.” All materials are provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own supplies.

Vital & Creative is a series of creative materials explorations for adults aged 55+. This month, learn techniques for creating oversized paper flower blooms inspired by the exhibition Faux Flora and the décor of the upcoming Anchorage Museum gala.

Experiment with color, shape and texture as you create a bold bloom of your own. Take a flower home and make an extra to add to the gala décor. 🌼

Slow down and make something by hand in this slow craft series. Hosted by the Anchorage Weavers and Spinners Guild, Slow Craft Sessions showcase a range of techniques, from loom and tablet weaving to macramé and more.

In this beginner-friendly session, learn the basics of rigid heddle weaving. Try multiple looms, spend time weaving and see how different yarns behave within a weave structure.

What might human systems learn from the ways other living communities organize themselves?

Experimental philosopher Jonathon Keats reads from his recently published book, "A Field Guide to More-Than-Human Governance." Keats considers the population structures and behaviors of nonhuman communities, from bacterial colonies to dolphin pods. Drawing on these observations, Keats proposes a methodology for looking to nature for ideas about how human systems might be organized differently.

Following the reading, Keats joins Museum staff to discuss the project, possibilities for future human governance and approaches to creating change. Keats will be available for a book signing and conversation following the event.
