A couple of recently acquired images - Willie and Lillian Heron's gas station and lunch room at the corning of Route 6 and Hendee Rd. Willie leased the property. The rent was 1 cent for every gallon of gas sold, plus up-keep of the facilities. First image is Lillian, Willie and Florence Rider. Second image has Egbert Sr, Florence and son Frank Rider (who's son David provided the images).

On September 28th, 1992, the State began dismantling the RR overpass on Route 316. The overpass was constructed in 1848, upgraded with heavier duty girders and rails in 1912, and saw rail traffic until the very early 1970s. Beginning in the mid 1990s, the rail bed was cleared and became a popular multi-use trail, but the gap the removal of this bridge created essentially divided the trail into two parts with a difficult passage between the two segments. It was not until 19 years and 6 months later, March, 31, 2012 (10 years ago) that the new covered bridge would fill this gap.

In 1955, at age 16, Charles "Chuck" Skoog dove into Andover Lake and broke his neck. This left Chuck confined to a wheel chair for the rest of his life. In order to help Chuck and his family, town residents organized a number of fund raising events. One such event was hosting a motor cycle rodeo of sorts put on by the Iron Bronc's motor cycle club. This demonstration was held at the relatively new Elementary School.

When the brook through Cheney Hollow was dammed in 1927 to form Andover Lake, the barn that served the farm was retained and came into the possession of ALMA when it was created in the 1950s. ALPOA used the barn for many social activities including dinners, dances, and movie and bingo nights. Here are a couple of images from a July, 1955 Cornish Hen dinner. In the second photo I recognize Imodale and Donald Richards almost dead center. Does anyone recognize anyone else?

Check out the night time view of the museum. The newly installed lights really make for nice after dark viewing.
