Antioch's Farming Families--the Asa Little Farm, 25906 Grass Lake Rd.
This property was purchased from the government in 1843 by Asa Little and his wife Deborah Palmer, both born in New York state. The original home to the right in the early photo was built in the 1850’s and replaced the previous log cabin residence. An addition was added to the east side of the home in the 1860’s due to the birth of the growing family of 11 children. As the Civil War dragged on, Asa, now 41 years old, and his son, Edbert, age 16, enlisted in the Army on February 18, 1865 and served for 8 months in the 153rd Illinois Volunteer Infantry, not knowing that the war would soon be coming to an end. The property remained in the family until Asa’s son, Alonzo, sold the property to George Wolf in 1927. Mr. Wolf owned the property until 1956. It remains today as private residence at 25906 W Grass Lake Road.
