BLC Scout Museum To preserve and share the memories of Scouting in the Bay-Lakes Council for those interested in the Scouting program.

To become a member it is $10 per year or $250 for a lifetime. Beginning History of the BLC Scout Museum

The year was 2001 when it all started. Dale Opgenorth went to Camp Rokilio on a Thursday afternoon and showed Ranger Steve Grapentine and Sy Reagan his Camp Rokilio patch collection. Sy suggested to make some cases to display the patches. Sy then suggested to bring the collection to the Distric

t dinner that was coming up. The District dinner was at the Holiday Inn in Manitowoc. Dale received great feedback about the small display which prompted him to continue showing when opportunities arose. Dale continued displaying at District dinners and also started displaying the Rokilio collection at the Fall Mom & Son events at Camp Rokilio. People started donating items that were missing in the collection. In 2003 Dale worked with the Sheboygan County Museum to put on a display of Kettle Moraine Council items including items from Paul Salerno, past Scout Executive of the Kettle Moraine Council. The Sheboygan County Museum let Dale display items for about 6 months as part of their temporary displays. Then it was in 2004 when Dale invited the new Council Executive, Michael Surbaugh, over for dinner to explain the vision of the Museum project. Shortly after the meeting with Michael Surbaugh, he gave permission to start the BLC Scout Museum officially. Michael Surbaugh had the idea to have the first membership patch in 2004 to include “Charter Member” on it. Michael Surbaugh is now the Chief Executive of the Boy Scouts of America. Mission Statement: To preserve and share the memories of the Scouting in the Bay-Lakes Council for those interested in the Scouting program.
