Highlighting Arcola and Central Illinois history, and preserving the story of Raggedy Ann & Andy. Welcome to A Walk Through Time museum, highlighting Central Illinois history. Our museum honors the history of the beloved Raggedy and Andy dolls and the story of their creator, Johnny Gruelle, who was born in Arcola, and the Gruelle family, and honors the rich history of the Arcola, Illinois, and sur

rounding community. Arcola is home to a large Amish settlement, it boasts a proud sports tradition, and has a rich and varied history. It is our mission to honor the history of the community and all of its citizens and we are constantly acquiring artifacts and information to help us reach that goal. Along with a Raggedy Ann and Andy display which includes some rare and exclusive items, the museum houses an extensive display of photographs of early Arcola and Douglas County, a military display, a display from the studios of the Thompson sisters who were well-known and prolific photographers, a display with artifacts and information about local railroad history, and a display that includes artifacts form late 19th century and early 20th century physicians Dr. Virgil Fishel, Dr. Omar Barnes, and Dr. Elmer Allen Sr. (The Allen display was recently donated by the Allen family.) These are just a few examples of the history you will find on display at A Walk Through Time Museum. There is so much to see and enjoy - we hope you visit us soon. There is no cost to visit the museum but donations are most welcome. For more information please send us a message on this page.

A Walk Through Time, featuring Raggedy Ann & Andy

Welcome to A Walk Through Time museum, highlighting Arcola and Central Illinois history, and featuring the story of Raggedy Ann & Andy. Housed in the former Raggedy Ann & Andy museum space, the new museum continues to honor the history of the beloved dolls and the story of their creator, Johnny Gruelle, and will offer additional information about rich history of the Arcola, Illinois community. Arcola is home to a large Amish settlement, a thriving Hispanic population, it boasts a proud sports tradition, and it is home to a beautiful collection of Walldog murals depicting the town’s history. The museum will honor the history of the community and its citizens. We are a work in progress. We are still creating displays, and we welcome suggestions. Calendars featuring the original artwork by Joni Wannamaker, Johnny Gruelle’s granddaughter, and other items are available for purchase. There is no cost to visit the museum at this time but donations are welcome. For more information, leave a message with the Chamber of Commerce at 217-268-4530.
