The Logging Museum has two websites, one that I built and maintain. Its UJRL is snlm.wordpress.com
The other site was designed by nhudesign.com and is beautiful. Its URL is sierraloggingmuseum.org. Stuff gets on my site earlier and the index is easy to use, both at the top of the page and along tthe side. Nhu's version invites people to explore and is less easy to find specifics you may be looking for. So, depending on what your interested in, choose the site that best meets your needs.

The website at snlm.wordpress.com has a great new section called Sandy Gulch Mill (more photos) with about 30 photos of the Sandy Gulch and Wilseyville mill and the operations there. Most of the photos date from the 1950's to the early 1970's.

These photos came to the Editor's attention when a gentleman from the West Point area, Pat McGreevy, broughrt them to the museum on a CD. As it turns out, museum stalwart and daughter of Howard Bla...

Well, the 19th Annual Logging Jamboree is over, and what an event it was. Huge crowd, great weather, a lot of competitors, fantastic food, and lots of participation. The USFS did a lot more than they have ever done with all the rangers participating in a lot of things including guiding Smokey Bear. Chairperson, Ginny Kafka, did a huge amount of work, and although she had helpers, the number of things she had to do was staggering. She did them all making this event a really smooth one. Steve Kafka of Sierra Pacific Industries ran the competition and we were impressed with the number of competitors this year. Steve and SPI make the competition possible. The Moose cooked the food and I can testify that it was delicious. Thanks to everyone who helped make this a success. I was going to list more, but realized that I'd forget someone, so I'm choosing to issue a group thank you. See Angela's photos here and on the website.

The 18th Annual Jamboree was a huge success, partly due to the devastating Rim Fire having made so much smoke that rival events were canceled. We think the attendance was the highest since the beginnings of the Jamborees, the competition was excellent and many new-to-the-event participants took part.
We can't say enough, and give enough thanks to our many sponsors and prize providers. They came through for us again and in a big way.
Where are the photos, you say? Well, so far I haven't found any. We'd really love to have some so if you can provide some, we'd much appreciate that.

Sierra Nevada Logging Museum The Museum staff and friends of the museum are devastated by the loss of Director and great friend, Dale Brooks. He can be found in a variety of places on our web site, www.sierraloggingmuseum.org but the story of his coming to White Pines and their life in the camp can be found in the section called "How the Honeymoon got the Axe" Even though I wrote it, I read it about once a month just because I love the history so much.

The Museum is open Thursday through Sunday, 12 noon to 4 pm, from the first of April to about the first of December, depending on the weather.

The Museum didn't get it together for the 4th of July parade in Arnold, so didn't have a float in the parade. We did, however, have two of our most dedicated workers, Bill and Ginny Kafka serve as Grand Marshalls, so we were represented.

On the 29th, at 11:00 the White Pines Park will dedicate and celebrate the park improvements including the installation of the new playground equipment. A barbecue will then be held in the park. At 2:00 the Logging Museum will dedicate its beautiful new rock wall remembering the men who died while lumbering or logging.
