✨Vulnerable verbose post incoming✨
June / Pride is hard. Most previous pride months, I tend to just do my own thing. Not pay it much mind. Because parades aren't always my jam (unless they have mermaids 🧜).
And lots of q***r spaces I tried to enter when I was younger were dominated by white neurotypical, extroverted cisgender gay men.
And I was often misread in these spaces. Assumed to be a straight woman. A tourist. And this assumption and the disconnect that came with it, hurt more than being misread in straight spaces. Because there was the expectation or the hope that I would be welcomed, encouraged, invited. But like any other diverse culture.. we've got s**t to figure out. 🤔😏
HOWEVER. Through my work, connecting with my clients, colleagues and new friends, this year more than any other, I have been inspired and encouraged by folks ability to cultivate truly loving q***r community and ✨q***r joy✨. It's encouraged me to take more leaps in visibility and vulnerability and dig into what it might mean to be proud of my identity.
Surprisingly or unsurprisingly, amidst all of this increased visibility, I've actually been more intensely misgendered this month than ever before. And it just flippin sucks. I've been caught in my feels a number of times in the past few weeks and am working through it. There's no getting around it. And... It's not gunna stop me. 😤
A love letter to all the trans & nonbinary people I've literally ever met (& a not so secret love letter to myself):
You're the hecking best. Your joy gives me joy and you deserve all the good things in the whole world. You deserve to be celebrated every dang month of the year 💜🥰 Keep on keeping on, in spite of the Bullshirt. That is all. 🫳🎤
