OPENING RECEPTION TODAY at 6:00pm The Coburn Art Gallery, Ashland University

The Coburn Art Gallery at Ashland University proudly announces a new regional exhibition showcasing 70 captivating works by members of the Ohio Collage Society. The exhibition opens on Friday, May 29, 2026, with a free reception from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., and will be on view through July 24, 2026.

This exhibition highlights a wide variety of collage techniques, featuring both two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms that explore diverse materials and creative approaches. Collage, rooted in ancient traditions dating back to 200 BC in China, was named in the early 20th century by artists Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, derived from the French word “coller,” meaning “to glue.”

The Ohio Collage Society, established in 2007, was founded by Gretchen Bierbaum, who is also the founder of the National Collage Society of which they are affiliated. Its 53 members exhibit a broad range of contemporary styles and ideas, fostering appreciation, production, and visibility of this unique art form by promoting it both in Ohio and nationally.

Featured artists in the exhibition include Anita Burgess, Nancy S. Sotka, Mary Ann Sedivy, Cynthia C. Petry, Gwen Waight, Brenda Schneider, Helen Wilson, Karen Koch, Shirley Ende-Saxe, Care Hanson, Patricia Schroeder, JoAnn Giordano, Gail Taber, Clare Murray Adams, and Alexander (Al) Aitken.

The Coburn Art Gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., offering free admission to all visitors. The gallery is closed on holidays and during university breaks.
