We would like to thank Mike Kindt and Ruth Howell for acquiring and donating this well-preserved PERUNA box. This controversial patent medicine tonic developed by Dr. Hartman had a high alcohol content. It skirted the Prohibition Amendment, allowing people to get their alcohol fix by drinking this elixir. Hartman Farms was on the south end of Columbus. People from this area worked on the farm and people from this area headed to Columbus would often buy fruits there.

Local auctioneer John Barth was one of the most prolific collectors of all things PERUNA.

It is almost time. It will not be long until the Fourth of July Celebration is here. Here is a 2012 video of me interviewing members of the Ashville Community Men's Club, a set up for a video with locals cheering We Are...Ashville, and interviewing Belva Lou Morrison and Rosie Stewart Jamison. I apologize for having such a soft voice. Gee, we would like to see videos like these preserved in our Ohio's Small Town Museum forever.

Do you remember when Johnny DiLoretto came to Ohio's Small Town Museum to uncover some of its interesting artifacts? He would not recognize it now with all the new displays. This is just one of the many videos we are striving to save for local posterity. Steve Clay, Bob Hines, Charlie Morrison, Charles Cordle, and Dorothy Cormany all make guest appearances.

We would like to thank Ron Foreman for the new oak trim placed around our entryway doors. The trim looks beautiful. Our next project is to upgrade our walls in the main room with birch plywood--allowing us to place more local historical artifacts and achievements on these walls.

It is such a wonderful thing to be able to save these communal memories and it would be a travesty to allow the dozens of other local related videos that have not been converted and digitized to never become available for all to see.

ENDURING ENDOWMENT CAMPAIGN

Without your help, children growing up here might never see the History Channel program about sinking of the U.S.S. San Diego that was captained by Ashville's H. H. Christy. They might never learn about how an Ashville man helped develop Miami Beach. The might never hear about Sgt. Elmer Neff's heroic efforts to capture Iwo Jima or the courage of William Schlarp who died of wounds he received during the D-Day battle to take Omaha Beach. They might not take in a presentation about the Last of the Scioto Valley Railroad Stations by Station Master Jack Lemon.

You see, our area is connected to a wide variety of world and national events that have been captured on film and video. It would be a travesty to allow them and others like them to fade from our memories.

You can help us save these valuable videos and documents for generations to come by contributing to the Enduring Endowment Campaign Fund.

You can send us a check made out to the Ashville Area Heritage Society at 34 Long Street, Ashville, OH 43103 or go to our website at:

You would not believe all of the wonderful videos we have in our library and many more waiting to be digitized.
