Andy Millner, born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1967, draws deep influence from his early experiences in theater and film, where he worked as a scenic artist. These creative environments, which required the construction of alternative worlds, have shaped his art, which blends natural, handmade, and machine-made elements. His landscapes, characterized by flattened, digital compositions without clear viewpoints or shadows, challenge viewers to question the boundaries between old and new, artificial and natural. Millner’s work reflects the impermanence of human presence and our complex relationship with the world, inspired by his broad range of experiences from St. Louis to various art residencies.
Tonight, from 5pm-7pm, join us for a special cocktail reception honoring Andy Millner.
The Aspen Art Fair, Buckhorn Public Arts, and Dance Aspen have awarded the 2025 Buckhorn Arts/Dance Aspen Set Design Award to artist Andy Millner, who has created a 17’ x 27’ backdrop inspired by Dance Aspen’s choreography for their Ember Glow production. The set design will debut during President’s Weekend 2025 at Aspen’s Wheeler Opera House. This collaboration, rooted in Aspen’s rich cultural history and inspired by the partnership between Robert Rauschenberg and the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, highlights the enduring connection between art and performance.
