Exploring form, rhythm, and negative space in the work of Giselle Hicks.

These hand-built ceramic forms balance structure with the subtle irregularities of the handmade. Repetition creates a sense of rhythm, while fingerprints and variations in the clay allow the artist’s hand to remain present in each piece. Hicks describes her ceramic practice as an exploration of shape, volume, color, and composition.

Quiet, architectural, and beautifully tactile.

On view at Harvey Preston Gallery.

Fresh flowers at the gallery — David Kimball Anderson style. 🌼

Delicate blooms meet weathered steel in Anderson’s sculptural still lifes. Inspired by flowers growing in his own garden, each piece balances the softness and familiarity of nature with the weight and permanence of metal.

Simple, unexpected, and quietly beautiful. 🪻

The vessel becomes the figure. 🏮

Akio Takamori’s expressive lines move effortlessly across the ceramic form, allowing the shape of the vessel and the painted figure to become one. Playful, intimate, and full of personality, his work brings an unmistakable sense of humanity to clay.

As a third year mentor with Cohorts.Art, my focus is on helping each artist develop a deeper understanding of their individual practice while building a community where we can learn from, challenge, and support one another.

I work with artists making both sculptural work and functional pottery, drawing on my own broad experience across both disciplines. While everyone comes to the program with their own work, ideas, and goals, the cohort is also about learning from one another—creating a safe space where we can have meaningful conversations, challenge ideas, share perspectives, and support each other’s growth.

For more than 18 years, I have also operated an art gallery in Aspen, Colorado, working closely with artists, collectors, curators, designers, and people who are deeply engaged with the arts. That experience allows me to bring another perspective to our conversations: not only how you make and think about your work, but how that work communicates, how it exists within the broader cultural landscape, and how you navigate a professional life as an artist.

Throughout the program, my goal is to help you develop a deeper understanding of your practice and discover new ways of generating ideas and pushing your work forward.

Just as importantly, I want this cohort to become a community. By the end of our time together, my hope is that you leave not only with greater clarity and confidence in your work, but with a group of artists and friends you can continue to rely on emotionally, creatively, and professionally.

Applications are now open for the 2027 Cohorts.Art program- apply today to join my cohort.

Join us Harvey Preston Gallery this Thursday, August 20th from 5-8pm for The opening reception of Brad Reed Nelson’s new show, Basket Case 🧺

Basket case explores the relationship between volume and density. Complex, open structures give the work a strong physical presence.
