Breaking the Surface is a haunting solo exhibition of dreamlike watercolor paintings by Benz and Chang. Designed to resemble vintage photographs and early 20th-century portraiture, these works reveal unexpected details on closer inspection—twins, halos, ghost limbs, wings, and uncanny shadows that hint at deeper emotional narratives.

Blending historical realism with surreal imagery, Benz and Chang explores transformative human experiences including grief, fear, mortality, mystical encounters, and life-altering decisions. Every costume, gesture, and setting is meticulously researched, creating richly believable scenes that feel suspended between memory, dream, and the subconscious.

Breaking the Surface invites viewers into the haunted, mysterious corners of the human psyche where the familiar begins to shift into something strange and profound.

The show Nothing Gold Can Stay pairs the evocative work of Jill McVarish and Annie Becker, two artists connected by a shared fascination with childhood memory, storytelling, and the bittersweet passage from imagination into adulthood.

Through richly narrative oil paintings, McVarish captures toys, pets, and imaginary companions with humor and tenderness, reflecting on the deep emotional worlds children create.

Becker, transforms sculpted clay and weathered found objects into striking characters inspired by nursery tales and folklore. Her sculptures feel both familiar and transformed—figures marked by endurance, resilience, and the passage of time.

Thomas Benenati’s latest works continue to draw viewers into the quiet, immersive world he discovers on two wheels. Shaped by his long-distance cycling journeys through the Pacific Northwest, each piece reflects a deeply personal connection to the landscape that unfolds slowly, mile by mile.

The exhibition is on view through May 5. Stop by the gallery and spend some time with these remarkable works.

Placeholder is an exhibition of Thomas Benenati’s abstracted landscapes inspired by his prolonged solo bicycle trips throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Throughout Benenati’s bicycle treks over hundreds of miles, his intimate experience of the landscape provides daily artistic inspiration. Back in his studio, he transforms remembered environs into shards of color and fractured light. Working in pastel or oil, his expressive strokes and smudged blocks of color mix with tendrils of meandering line to create ethereal compositions that deliver the authentic spirit of the great outdoors. The show will be up through May 5th!

We’re excited to announce the opening of Placeholder, a new exhibition of abstracted landscapes by Thomas Benenati opening tonight, Saturday, April 11th. Meet the artist for 5-8p.m.

Drawn from his prolonged solo bicycle journeys across the Pacific Northwest and beyond, Thomas’s work begins on the road where miles of terrain, shifting light, and quiet solitude become a daily source of inspiration. Back in the studio, these lived experiences are reimagined into luminous compositions of color and movement.

Working in pastel and oil, Thomas transforms remembered environments into fractured light, expressive strokes, and drifting lines. Smudged blocks of color mingle with delicate, meandering forms, creating atmospheric works that evoke not just the appearance of the landscape, but its felt presence.

Join us in celebrating this immersive body of work that captures the spirit of the outdoors through a deeply personal lens. The show will run through May 5th.

In recognition of Women’s History Month, Of Quiet Strength features works by Shannon Amidon and Karen Russo that explore the inner landscape of feminine spirit through nature. Amidon, inspired by the life, correspondence, and garden of Emily Dickinson, offers several series incorporating antique envelopes, pressed botanicals, and fragments of poetry layered in encaustic. Russo’s ceramic sculptures are entrancing, emotive figures that express the inner life of heart and soul.

Opening today, February 14! Duncan Berry’s eloquent gyotaku prints feature in a collaborative show that celebrates the connection of seafaring people throughout the world, from the Oregon coast to the fishing villages of Thailand.
Berry’s sea-life prints are one-of-a-kind impressions taken from the inked surfaces of fish, sea creatures, and plants. These include a 10-foot-long print of a humpback whale tail and a 9-foot print from the pectoral fin of the same whale, recently washed up on the Oregon coast.
Exhibiting alongside Berry’s prints are those created by the Moken, an indigenous people living in a village-on-stilts in the Andaman Sea in Thailand, who were taught the gyotaku printmaking process by Berry.
Join us for the opening reception from 5pm to 8pm. Meet the artist and enjoy complimentary Champagne and Valentine-
