APEX Museum Special Presentation on APEX Media Network (app downloadable on ROKU)

The APEX Museum is proud to feature Juneteenth: Faith & Freedom as a special presentation on the APEX Media Network Roku App. This award-winning documentary explores the powerful connection between faith, freedom, and the Juneteenth story, taking viewers on a journey through the history of emancipation and the resilience of those who endured slavery while maintaining hope and spiritual strength. Featuring insights from historians, scholars, community leaders, and Juneteenth advocate Dr. Opal Lee, the film examines how faith inspired generations in the ongoing pursuit of freedom and justice.

The APEX Media Network App is FREE to download on Roku, and this special presentation is FREE to view, making this important educational and inspirational documentary accessible to audiences everywhere. Join us at the APEX Museum 7p-9p after our regularly scheduled tours we will be hosting our second Juneteenth event honoring the life and works of Dr.Opal Lee and formerly accepting the works and artifacts of the late Dr. Frederick Hall, Jr. former chairman of Spelman College Theater Department to our archives. Food, Entertainment , Culture and History, and lots of celebrating!

Today we were graced with some really awesome visitors. We want to give a special shout out to Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church Girl Scouts Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church Girl Scouts. Such exceptional youth and a few of them we had considered hiring because of the knowledge of the history! Don’t forget to support our youth and young people. We do!

The APEX Museum was honored to welcome a large group of youth from the Eddie Lee Wilkins Foundation this week. Founded by former NBA star Eddie Lee Wilkins, the foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of young people by exposing them to enriching educational and cultural experiences. During their visit, students explored the stories, art, culture, and history preserved at the APEX Museum, gaining a deeper understanding of the human experience through the perspectives of diverse communities. The group was enthusiastic, inquisitive, and fully engaged, creating an atmosphere of collaboration, learning, and mutual understanding. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our mission with these remarkable young leaders and look forward to welcoming them back in the future. The first will establish a JUNETEENTH ARCHIVAL COLLECTION featuring and being gifted to the Museum’s Newly Named Archival Collection the…Director’s Script & Video Presentation from the first public reading of QUEEN OPAL’S WALK FOR FREEDOM, a Newly Commissioned Broadway Musical Theatrical Tribute to the life of Dr. Opal Lee (the 99-year-old Grandmother of Juneteenth) whose advocacy helped make Juneteenth A National Holiday.

QUEEN OPAL’S WALK FOR FREEDOM is Co-Written by Dr. Janice Liddell & Byron C. Saunders – Director…with Original Music Composed & under the Direction of Walter Robert Bland Jr’...starring: Gayle Turner, Ella Simone Tabu, Donald S. Hinson, Adrienne Carlotta, Kay Marion, Jon Hayden, Dr. Marta Maria Torres Trevino, Bismark Quintanilla Jr., Zoe Jourdain Middleton, Zoomcatchers, The Frank Silvera Writers’ Workshop & Trails to Juneteenth.
The second will formally accept the collected papers of Dr. Fred Hall, Jr, former Chairman of Spelman College’s Theater Department, into the museum’s archives. These events are designed to preserve important cultural and historical resources, strengthen relationships with scholars, artists, and community leaders, and engage supporters from the Atlanta University Center and beyond in advancing the museum’s mission to preserve, protect, and promote history for future generations.
