Please join us TONIGHT May 18th 6pm for an engaging discussion with Leap Year Fellowship recipient Nyala Yvonne ( .half ) at Atlanta’s MINT Gallery ( )☀️

A first for the emerging artist, Nyala will be taking questions from the audience, discussing artistic process, and ‘the why’ behind The Golden Half Exhibition currently on display

Moderated by Oriyomi Walcot-Ceesay ( .the.brain )

‘The Golden Half’ is an art exhibition by Nyala Yvonne that weaves together the threads of coming-of-age storytelling with experimental afro-surrealist collage art. This immersive experience redefines some traditional biblical motifs, while also shedding new light on ideas of identity, empowerment, and the pursuit of authenticity.

Each artwork serves as a poignant chapter in this captivating narrative, celebrating the transition from adolescence into adulthood—the golden half of life, as Nyala sees it.

This exhibit challenges ideas of strength and fearlessness, championing the underdog and inspiring confidence in the face of adversity. Highlighting the courage it takes to embrace change.

Tonight at MINT Join us for the opening of Master’s Thesis exhibition, In Her Company.

“Growing up, I found solace and strength in the trust and love of my female friends, which bridged the gaps left by familial neglect. I believe in the unique bond shared among women, fostering vulnerability and authenticity while navigating the delicate balance of intimacy and independence. Through my photography, I aim to depict the profound connections between women, illuminating their joy, vulnerability, and unwavering support. For my project, I documented the lives of close friends I met while studying abroad—a group of Chinese women in Atlanta. As international students, our relationship with the city was complex; neither tourists nor fully integrated, we sought refuge in our apartments, where friendships flourished amidst cultural unfamiliarity. Despite camaraderie, we grappled with a sense of isolation. With graduation imminent, I capture the bittersweet emotions of parting and the uncertainty that accompanies the transition, honoring the cherished moments and enduring bonds forged.” -
