This past Saturday I was able to combine both of my passions… drawing and history (American Civil War).

I was invited by the 45th Massachusetts regiment to join them in their reenactment at Fort Macon. I was asked to portray James Wells Champney, a former engraver from Boston who enlisted in the 45th Massachusetts and was stationed at Fort Macon. During Champney's service in Eastern North Carolina, he drew what life was like for Union soldiers in Eastern North Carolina. He drew things like the fort and camp life. One of his most notable sketches while at Fort Macon was called
"Fort Macon, Christmas Day, 1862."

Champney went on to be a notable artist. He was known for pastels and he enjoyed drawing things like landscapes and Victorian women.

In 1882, he was elected into the National Academy of Design and his pastel pieces went on display at the Columbian Exhibition in Chicago from 1893-1898.
Unfortunately on May 1, 1903, he fell five stories down an elevator shaft and was killed instantly. He was killed just shortly before he and his wife had a paid passage to Europe in early July.

It’s not much, but I am selling copies of the sketch I did of Fort Macon if anyone would like one, just message me. Thank you.

Does this mean I’m accredited now?? Lol!!

As you know, I have been drawing ever since I could hold a pencil. It is so nice to have formal validation, printed on a nice document, in a nice frame for not only me to see but everyone else.

Drawing has always been something I love to do, but growing up means less free time to do it. With that comes responsibilities and it has caused me to not be able to do commissions at certain times of the year. The reason for that is I’m now in the process of obtaining my Bachelors Degree, so hopefully one day I can have an early retirement and be able to do what I love, which is to draw. I’m hoping one day, I will be able to have all the free time in the world to be able to draw like I used to.

I am very thankful for all of the business I have received over the years, it has truly been amazing. Thank you so much for all of the support.

I may not be able to take commissions right now, but I am still selling copies of celebrities I have already drawn. If you don’t see the celebrity you’re looking for, just message me.

Thank you so much ~L.G.W.
