We are a group of volunteers who help organize and host Tibetan cultural events in Auburn and the surrounding area. Most notable are the visits by the Tibetan Buddhist Monks who share their core message of love, patience and compassion. By sharing the many aspects of Tibetan culture we hope help cultivate a connection between the Tibetan community and ou

r own. Whether it is the Sacred Arts of Tibet which include Sand Mandalas and Thanka paintings, the ritual blessings, healings and empowerments, the philosophical lectures on a host of pertinent topics or their traditional Tibetan Buddhist teachings we believe there is something beneficial for most anyone. Exploring the Early Buddhist Teachings Together 🌿
A 6 Week Online Course with Maeve Hassett
Wednesdays, September 2 through October 7 | 6 to 7:30pm PT

Some of the earliest teachings of the Buddha are found in the Atthakavagga, the Book of Eights, a collection of sixteen poems. This six session course takes up those poems using Gil Fronsdal's The Buddha Before Buddhism as our primary text, alongside a few other writings believed to come from the same early period.

These teachings clarify something essential about the path, and connect directly to how we live day to day. The middle four sessions each focus on a major theme, and the final session considers what these early writings mean for our practice today.

Maeve Hassett has been teaching and studying Buddhism for nearly 30 years and has been part of the Mountain Stream community since 2004.

Today is a uniquely important day in the calendar of the exile Tibetan people: it is the 66th Tibetan Democracy Day. There's a detailed statement by the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile at tibet.net. Part of it reads, "In order that the Tibetan struggle would not need to depend on a single individual, as well as by taking into consideration a multitude of immediate and long-term concerns, His Holiness in 2011 transferred to the elected leaders of the Tibetan people the entirety of his political authority over the whole of Tibet that had been held for nearly four hundred years till then by his Gaden Phodrang institution."
