The Cayuga Museum campus operates in three buildings: the mansion, the Case Research Laboratory, and the carriage house. The mansion is home to several changing exhibits each year as well as a permanent exhibit about Auburn Correctional Facility. The Case Research Laboratory is the home of talking movies, where Theodore Case invented the first commercially successful system of sound on film, which

visitors can now explore on a guided tour to learn about the history of sound film. The carriage house is a recently renovated multi-purpose space used for museum and community events. Our mission is to provide a forum for the public to realize, interact with and appreciate Cayuga County’s shared past and unfolding present to help shape a better future.

We are exceedingly grateful to be one of the four sites selected in Central New York to receive capital funding from the New York State Council on the Arts. This support will go towards the revitalization of the flooring in the Willard-Case Mansion, our primary exhibition space, in anticipation of major exhibition upgrades and increased foot traffic. This funding will be transformative for our continued efforts to make the Museum accessible for all who visit.

Governor Hochul announced $82.2 million has been awarded through the New York State Council on the Arts’ Capital Projects Fund to support 132 projects in every region of the state.

May is Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and we’re recognizing the occasion with a series of special cultural activities this Saturday, May 31. Throughout the day, you may join us in the Cayuga Museum’s classroom for a paper fan making activity, then explore the Museum with your family to complete a scavenger hunt and win a special prize. Then join public historian Anneliese Meck from 1 - 3 PM for a unique living history pop-up which will explore the Chinese American experience in the fight for women’s suffrage.

---
Living History Pop-Up | “Voices Without Ballots: Chinese Americans in the Suffrage Movement”
1 – 3 PM

Explore the untold fight for women’s suffrage and civil rights among Chinese and Chinese American communities in the early 20th century. Join Chinese American public historian, Anneliese Meck , to uncover remarkable stories like that of Dr. Mabel Ping-Hua Lee – a Chinese immigrant, scholar, and activist – who led a major, 1912 New York City suffrage parade on horseback. Visitors will learn how Chinese women like Dr. Lee championed women’s rights, even when their citizenship and the vote were denied under the Chinese Exclusion Act.
