May is Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and we’re recognizing the occasion with a series of special cultural activities this Saturday, May 31. Throughout the day, you may join us in the Cayuga Museum’s classroom for a paper fan making activity, then explore the Museum with your family to complete a scavenger hunt and win a special prize. Then join public historian Anneliese Meck from 1 - 3 PM for a unique living history pop-up which will explore the Chinese American experience in the fight for women’s suffrage.

Living History Pop-Up | “Voices Without Ballots: Chinese Americans in the Suffrage Movement”
1 – 3 PM
Explore the untold fight for women’s suffrage and civil rights among Chinese and Chinese American communities in the early 20th century. Join Chinese American public historian, Anneliese Meck , to uncover remarkable stories like that of Dr. Mabel Ping-Hua Lee – a Chinese immigrant, scholar, and activist – who led a major, 1912 New York City suffrage parade on horseback. Visitors will learn how Chinese women like Dr. Lee championed women’s rights, even when their citizenship and the vote were denied under the Chinese Exclusion Act.
