By appt. only - installation in progress New East Gallery started off as DiverseArts Little Gallery Exhibition Series in 1993. In March of 2007 DiverseArts Little Gallery was reborn as New East Gallery - DiverseArts’ fine art gallery, dedicated to showcasing Austin’s emerging and established visual artists. Very much a mission-driven space, we take

a multicultural, multimedia approach to presenting local artists who represent the diverse cultural communities living in Austin, with a special interest in providing exhibition opportunities for artists of color.

We’re proud to announce the return of FRESH BLACK PAINT! Please join us for the opening reception this Saturday, March 28th, 7:00 PM at New East Arts Gallery, 1101 Navasota Street Suite 1.

Fresh Black Paint is a group exhibition featuring paintings by emerging American artist Caleb DeVaughn alongside Nigeria-based artists Joy Eyitayo Alagbe, Yomi Momoh, Adubi Mydaz-Makinde, Praise Sanni-Adeniyi and Yakubu Kareem! Presented in partnership with Kora Art Collective and co-curated by Pauline Nzeribe, Harold McMillan and Stacie Williams.

We’re lucky to have the incomparable DJ Santi playing music for us, and of course, complimentary wine and light bites. We hope you’ll be able to join us for the festivities!

Fresh Black Paint is a tradition at New East Arts Gallery recognizing the importance of celebrating African American heritage and the broader African diaspora not only during Black History Month but throughout the year. The exhibition brings together international artists whose work reflects global perspectives on identity, resilience, culture, and the evolving visual language of Black creativity.

This year’s exhibition presents work that reframes narratives around history, everyday life, and the enduring power of the Black spirit.

Based in Austin, Kora Art Collective is dedicated to elevating exceptional contemporary African art. Kora presents carefully curated works by emerging and mid-career artists on the continent and the diaspora, offering art enthusiasts, collectors, and institutions a refined pathway into one of today’s most vibrant global art movements.

We’re thrilled to announce an extension for Ricardo Acevedo’s 25-year retrospective exhibition, THE INTERLOPER, through the New Year!

The past few months, we’ve been fortunate enough to welcome hundreds of family members, friends, community members, and total strangers to the gallery where they have discovered art, shared conversation, and uplifted the East Austin arts scene!

We want to extend that opportunity and make sure you get a chance to meet THE INTERLOPER!

Ricardo has been an integral and inextricable force in Austin’s creative scene and has shown work with New East Arts Gallery many times over the years. For example, the photography series, US - In The Mix, that is on our walls now was originally part of a New East Arts exhibition in the summer of 2008!

Stop by and see some of the work that has helped build the New East Arts identity!

And stay tuned for more news about our soon-to-be-announced NEW EAST ART MARKET THIS WEEKEND, ~12-6 pm, featuring local vendors, light bites, and wonderful weather for gift shopping!

Ricardo Acevedo and Reji Thomas will be joining us on Sunday, so come on out, meet the artists, and buy some art!!

We hope to see you there!

Giving Tuesday is almost over! We’re asking for your support to protect something irreplaceable: the archival materials that tell the story of Black East Austin.

For generations, the African American community in East Austin built a legacy that shaped the city’s identity—through art, music, literature, academics, entrepreneurship, and everyday life.

EACC is working to preserve and make accessible the cultural archives that safeguard this history. Our goal is to ensure that this Black cultural memory remains rooted in the place it was created.

EACC and our founder, Harold McMillan, are the stewards of the Austin Black Music Archive and many more cultural history resources, including:

• 150+ hours of filmed live music performances featuring the architects of the Austin Blues scene

• 25+ hours of filmed oral history interviews

• 1,000+ documentary photography slides and negatives

• 500+ pages of oral history transcripts

• & research articles covering Black history in Austin dating back to the mid-1800’s

When you give to EACC, you are not just supporting an organization, you are keeping the history, creativity, and lived experiences of Black East Austin alive!

Every contribution—large or small—helps sustain this vital cultural resource, fuels our cultural research and documentary work, and keeps this legacy alive for future generations.

Please support us at the link in bio!

Thank you for being part of our community and for keeping the spirit of East Austin alive.
