The inspiration for colors in this piece comes from a Metamorphic rock called "Lapis Lazuli." The brilliant gold, blue hues and black work in harmony to mimic the layers found in this type of blue rock. Spiritual meaning with this rock is associated with wisdom, good-luck, and healing.
Fun fact: Lapis Lazuli was valued highly among the ancient Egyptians once upon a time.

This work began as an ink experiment. I used rock salt to create the texture and once the ink was dry, I began to see turtles swimming out to sea. I captured the details using gel pen.
