DANIELLE DEMETRIA EAST'S
powerful poems are a glimpse into Melanated Magic, her self-published chapbook of poetry that expresses an ode of appreciation for Black women and the generational pain placed upon them. During HOTBOX, Danielle has been creating self-guided healing kits for Black women that include her book of poetry. Stay tuned for access to Danielle's interactive website where you can sign up to receive your very own healing kit.
//
West Texas-based installation artist, Danielle Demetria East has been honing her skills as a found-object sculptor and mixed-media assemblage artist for the past few years. Originally from La Grange, Texas, East was born in 1997 and lived the majority of her life around her family (in particular her grandmother) and in the rural areas of Fayette County, Texas. East’s work explores the similarities between the Black woman and practitioners of magic, using installation, sculpture, performance, and poetry to examine metaphors of femalehood and themes of pain, persecution, power, and healing.

WHOA! We sent out an email this morning about a collaborative mail art project, and before we could even post about it here, the 50 spots we were hoping to get all FILLED UP! If you're not already, sign up for our email list on our website (link in bio). Keep an eye on your inbox because who knows, maybe we'll do another round 💌
//
Participants will receive the beginnings of an exquisite co**se in the mail from another artist in the community, then complete their assigned section of the drawing and then mail the work to the next collaborator. When all-three sections of the drawing are completed, the finished exquisite co**se will be mailed back to MASS gallery, where it will be assembled in a "Quaranzine" - a zine of collaborative works made during the 2020 quarantine.

THINKING OF YOU!
We at MASS hope you are managing alright under the strained circumstances and finding moments of joy within this strange new world. While we're all stuck at home, we thought it would be useful to connect you with technical resources and creative opportunities happening online. We've created a curated list of Artist Resources & Opportunities including national grants, Austin-specific assistance, and an abundance of online workshops and happenings.
//
This list will be updated regularly and includes a link for you to submit anything you think we should add. We hope this spreadsheet helps in navigating and relieving COVID-19 anxiety

Donations made through will help us fund both operating and programming expenses, ensuring that we are able to continue being a part of our local arts community. Thank you! 🌸

is live 💘Link is in our bio! Today is a global day of giving to support communities and nonprofits in light of covid-19. We hope you'll consider supporting us so that we may open our doors again when it is safe to do so. Until then, our collective is recalibrating our programming to adapt to the uncertain future. We thank you for your support, financial or otherwise 💞

❤︎ Tomorrow is a global day of giving to support communities and nonprofits in light of covid-19. Like so many others, we're doing our best to adapt under the circumstances. In mid-March, we shifted our outlook to adapt to the new and completely unknown circumstances of the global pandemic. We quickly transitioned our rapidly approaching Hotbox Residency to take place 100% online, forgoing the typical transformation of our gallery space into a working studio. As a collective we decided this was the best way to maintain our goal of supporting the projects of two artists that would not have otherwise been realized, while also looking out for the safety and health of our community.
//
Looking to the future, the rest of our planned gallery programming is on hold. Our opening night celebrations, which regularly welcome 200-300 visitors to our space, cannot take place as planned. Our previous schedule included exhibits opening in March, May, August, and September. Not only is the postponement of these events and others a blow to how we connect with our community, it is also a loss in revenue that we depend on to run our space. Without the in-person exhibitions, our collective is working to support artists by holding virtual programming, and finding ways in which we can be nimble for the time when we will be able to welcome visitors to our space.
//
Funds raised through will help us weather the storm as we continue to adjust our plans. We thank you for your support, financial or otherwise.❤️❤️❤️
