Meet Alexis Hunter (), an Austin-based multidisciplinary artist, curator, and educator whose work explores self-image, racial identity, the female body, and the male gaze through painting, video, and participatory practice.

Hunter approaches both making and curating with honesty and vulnerability, creating spaces for empathy, dialogue, and connection.

At A3, we believe local art belongs on more walls, more feeds, and more pages. We’re excited to share the artists who make Austin’s creative community what it is.

In Austin, supporting the arts isn’t charity, it’s investing in our city.

Because here, the arts aren’t an “extra,” and they’re not “just a hobby.” The arts are why people move here, why they visit, why they stay.

Anyone who really loves Austin knows that art creates community, it drives tourism, and brings dollars to local businesses.

Your favorite cultural center is reopening, and A3 is helping tell its story. 

The didn’t happen overnight. It exists because generations of Latino artists, activists, educators, and community leaders believed Austin deserved a lasting home for Mexican American and Latino arts and culture for future generations.

A3 is proud to debut “Imagination Knows No Borders: The Story of The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center,” a new permanent exhibition opening Saturday, June 6, as part of the MACC’s grand reopening celebration.

Artists do a lot more than simply produce creative output. They teach the next generation. They carry stories, memory, and culture forward. They care for their communities.

Much of this labor is unpaid and undervalued, sitting outside how we define “work.”

What would it look like to recognize this labor not as extra, but as core to the field itself? Thoughts?
