The Baltimore Museum of Industry (BMI) collects, preserves, and interprets the industrial history of the Baltimore region by focusing on such diverse businesses as canning, printing, metal working, ship-building, food processing, utilities, biosciences, and garment. More than a dozen galleries replicate historic work setting with artifacts, many of which are demonstrated during educational programs. The Baltimore Museum of Industry is more than a repository for the ephemera of a forgotten world of canneries and sweatshops. It is a living institution. The museum is constantly evolving to celebrate our rich history, the contributions of the present, and our bright industrial future.

The work of everyday Baltimoreans can be celebrated with your continued support, whether it is seeing a grandfather’s tools featured in our new Key Bridge exhibit, a T-Shirt of your Local Union on display in “Collective Action,” or seeing a portrait of a Baltimore Public School lunch lady in our past exhibit “Food For Thought.

The BMI is there for the moments that define our communities, providing historical perspectives in the context of ongoing developments. Your gift today will support the BMI’s efforts as a cultural institution, creating space for connection, reflection, exploration, and education.

Thousands rallied across Maryland (and globally) yesterday for May Day, representing workers from a range of industries, advocating for workers’ rights, and economic and social justice.

May Day matters. And so does May 2nd and every day after that.

History shows Workers’ rights aren’t won in a single afternoon but are built through sustained advocacy, organizing, and coalition. At the Baltimore Museum of Industry, our exhibition “Collective Action: Labor Activism in 21st Century Baltimore” exists precisely for that reason — to keep this conversation going year-round.
