Since the Freddy's Awards just happened a little over a week ago, I thought it would be a good time to share two photos of the casts for productions that were performed in Roseto during the late 1930s or early 1940s.

The Homefront was a quality monthly magazine that was sent to area veterans during World War II. This non-profit endeavor carried news, pictures, and letters from the folks at home to their men and women in the service also featuring messages of inspiration and the ever popular "Fairest of the Month". Officially recognized as the only wartime publication of its kind, it was founded by J. Horace and Mona L. Strunk of Bangor. The Slate Belt Heritage Center has an entire room dedicated to the Homefront magazine. We are open for visitors this weekend, May 30th and 31st from noon to 3. We are located on 30 N. 1st Street in Bangor and admission is free.

The Homefront magazine would often featured a “Visitors of the Month” section. In this part of the magazine the reader would find out about the servicemen that stopped by the Homefront building at 118 Pennsylvania Ave, Bangor, Pennsylvania to share their latest updates when they are home on a leave. Often, they had their picture taken on the porch. The Homefront Magazine was officially recognized as "the only magazine of its kind in America." It was published from 1942 to 1946 and sent to Slate Belt area servicemen during World War II.
