Check out the Barberville Pioneer Settlement during Museum Month!

This living history museum spans 30 acres and preserves the heritage of rural Florida through a collection of 18 historic structures. You can explore the 1919 Central High School, an 1890s general store, and a working blacksmith shop. The settlement offers a direct look at country life from over a century ago.

Museum Month is happening now through June 5! Pick up your Bingo passport, explore local museums, and collect your stamps along the way. When you complete a Bingo, turn in your passport at the West Volusia Visitor Center or the Museum Store at the Museum of Art – DeLand to earn your sticker sheet. Plus, every completed Bingo gets you an entry into a prize drawing for baskets filled with museum swag!

Welcome Kristina! Our very first Museum Month visitor from Inverness, Florida!

A true history buff, she is spending her May exploring museums in West Volusia. She has already checked off Barberville Pioneer Settlement, DeLand Memorial Hospital and Veterans Museum, and now the DeLand House.

Who’s next to start their Museum Month adventure?👀

We’re reaching out for a little community help.

One of our peafowl at the Barberville Pioneer Settlement is currently dealing with bumblefoot and a broken toe. She’s in clear need of veterinary care, but as a nonprofit living history organization, we simply don’t have the allocated funds set aside for this unexpected expense.

We’re hoping to raise $750 to cover half her treatment and give her the care she needs to recover comfortably.

If you’re able to help, even a small contribution makes a real difference. And if donating isn’t possible right now, sharing this post helps just as much.

Thank you for always showing up for the animals and programs that are part of our Settlement family.

Perks of being a Board Member! 🌠 🎉
Our Board joined the Executive Director & 2 of the board members from the West Volusia Historical Society for a private tour of the The Historic Joseph Underhill House!
This house is in its original condition, built in 1879, and is one of the oldest brick structures in the entire County of Volusia!

With your help, we aim to have the Underhill House open for tours again by our Fall Country Jamboree! 🍂🍁

West Volusia Tourism is challenging visitors and residents to venture outside their comfort zones this May with the Museum Month Bingo Passport.

Attractions across the region, including the Museum of Art – DeLand, DeBary Hall Historic Site, Enterprise Museum and Gillespie Museum, are opening their doors for passport holders to explore their institutions and “get a bingo.”

From May 1 through May 31, participants can pick up a Museum Month Bingo Passport at any participating museum or the West Volusia Visitor Center. As visitors travel to each location, they can mark off spaces on their cards.

Once participants complete a full bingo line, they can return their passports by June 5 to either the West Volusia Visitor Center or The Museum Store at the Museum of Art – DeLand to receive a free sticker sheet featuring hand-drawn illustrations of each museum.

🔍🤩 Spotted!
Our Events Gal was the lucky winner at yesterday's Audubon in Florida presentation by The Brown's History Curator, Zach Zacharias!

This ✨signed✨ copy of Aubudon's Birds of Florida (which will be on display in our Bridgehouse) by award-winning environmental advocate Clay Henderson chronicles the paintings and descriptions of previously unknown birds of the Florida wilderness during John James Audubon’s six-month expedition to the Florida Territory in 1831-32!

We can't wait to share more about in the coming months!
Did you see our joint event happening in October? 👀
