Where Louisiana history meets LSU history. 💜💛

The Old Governor’s Mansion has witnessed the lives and legacies of Louisiana governors — including Huey P. Long, whose connection to LSU left a lasting mark on the university. Long championed LSU’s growth in the 1930s, expanding its campus, enrollment and football program. He even co-wrote several LSU songs with band director Castro Carazo, including “Touchdown for LSU,” which remains part of LSU’s famous pregame tradition today. A little piece of Baton Rouge history you might not know about.

Yesterday marked the 4th presentation in our series celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, and what a wonderful evening it was!

Our heartfelt thank you to Jay Dardenne for generously gifting his time and sharing, and thank you to our incredible audience — we loved welcoming a standing room only crowd to Louisiana’s White House.

We are grateful for the continued support and enthusiasm for programs like this!

It’s been almost two weeks since the season finale of HBO’s Lanterns, which got us thinking
about someone else who wore a lot of green…Huey Long!

No kidding, green was supposedly Huey’s favorite color. Not only did Huey Long wear green
silk pajamas, he also made sure that the color was present throughout the mansion. A 1930
article from the New Orleans Tribune noted, “green is the predominating color note.” So, Huey
may not wear the ring and he probably never met the Guardians on Oa, but he is as close to a
Green Lantern as he could be!

Today we celebrate our anniversary of being placed on the National Register of Historic Places. This distinction recognizes our enduring architectural and cultural significance to Baton Rouge and the State of Louisiana.

🎬 Louisiana Film History Takes Center Stage!

Film lovers, this one’s for you! The Old Governor’s Mansion will host former Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne for Bayou Bijou: Movies Made in Louisiana — a look at 50 movies filmed right here in Louisiana, spanning more than a century of filmmaking in the state.

The presentation will also explore Louisiana’s more recent film history, including productions made possible through the state’s film tax credit program over the past three decades.
