As we look at the Old Allwood/Old Ford Garage building on 2nd and Manypenny, we see that the 1920s marked the end of an era for transportation by horse and traditional livery stables as the mass production of automobiles exploded. The word 'livery' quickly adapted by attaching itself to the automobile as a garage or a place to rent cars. This explains how the word made it on the sign in the Miller-Herrick Garage picture (c. 1921). In today's picture, the building still stands strong with Stone's Throw, Honest Dog Books, Moss & Stone Yoga, Penny Print and many other uses. Heck of a deal!

We are gearing up for our Tailgate Party Fundraiser this Friday (9/18 at 30 N Broad St in Bayfield) at 6pm! One of the raffle items is a beautiful gliclee print of one of Leonard Anderson's most prized Bayfield scenes!

Growing up within Bayfield's fishing heritage and later becoming a talented and prolific watercolor artist, Anderson’s depictions of the Apostle Islands from the mid to late 1900s offer viewers a chance to experience the historical and natural beauty of this unique region. Here is a scene from Rittenhouse Ave!
