“Capture of Königsberg”
(This city is now called Kaliningrad.)
Note; I have seen the ribbon on this medal faded to a deep, lime like green color before. As is common on many Soviet medals, fading can dramatically change the overall color of the fabric.

••MODERN RUSSIAN, NOT SOVIET••

Something a little more modern; this badge was made to commemorate the recovery divers of the Kursk, an Oscar 2 class nuclear submarine that sunk in August of 2000, during an Arctic training exercise. All 118 crew members died in the accident. It was retrieved in September of 2001.

The Little Octoberists;
These pins were made for the children’s organization Little Octoberists, and are extremely common. They feature a portrait of Lenin in his youth. I have seen several variations of this one, the most uncommon being the lead backed with heavy enamel.

I’ve decided to start this page as a way to record my collection and inform others about the pins, badges, and medals of the Soviet Union. I am not doing this as a way to glorify the USSR; instead it’s the opposite. Without recording the actions of them, they will quickly be forgotten.

“Gvardiya”
“USSR”
This relatively common badge was issued to units that were distinguished starting during WW2. Units earning this title had often suffered up to 30 percent or more casualties after successfully performing desperate missions; and earning it typically meant they’d be outfitted with better equipment, more rations, or special preference from superiors.

“Ladoga Ringed Seal”
“They need to live”
This species of seal is only found in Lake Ladoga in northwestern Russia. A weird piece of conservation history from the USSR, a nation that before now id only been able to associate with fine fi****ms and unjust genocide.
