Today we honor and remember the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our country.
Originally known as “Decoration Day,” the observance began after the Civil War, when communities gathered to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers and flags. Over time, Memorial Day became a national day of remembrance for all Americans who died in military service.
As we enjoy the freedoms they helped preserve, we pause to reflect on their sacrifice and express gratitude for their courage.
