Muddy Mountain Arts Family

Muddy Mountain Arts Family The Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center is a non-profit organization that is primarily run by volunteers. Our aim is to make art a part of people's lives.

We want to unite the community and spread our positivity and creativity to all. Our ceramic family is growing rapidly, positive vibes run amok through our little gem of an art center. The studio portion of the art center is open every day of the week. Monday-Thursday: Travis Adams is on a sculptural pottery crusade. Experimentation has proved to be a valuable tool in his work. He's currently gear

ing up for large scale sculptures and collaborations for CCACA 2013 in Davis. He holds a BFA from SFSU and is the Ceramics Chair at the art center. Friday: Tom Watson is our newest addition, coming to us from the formidable ceramics program at Cabrillo College. His surface decoration is mesmerizing and holds a strong spiritual presence. Sacred Geometry has become a beautiful obsession in his work. Saturday/Sunday: Honora Bacon has a wealth of experience accumulated from all over the country, most notably, the prestigious Penland school of Crafts, in North Carolina. Nora's functional pottery has an elegance fit for royalty.

*Liz Dobson Payne is currently apprenticing for Travis Adams. Most of her previous artistic endeavors have been of the jewelry variety. Now she's a full throttle clay addict. Her progress is astounding, her first piece of ceramic sculpture that was entered into a gallery WON AN AWARD. We're all so very proud :)

Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center, DEBUT APPEARANCE AT CCACA

Greetings! Hope everyone is staying muddy! The main topic of discussion at this upcoming meeting (2/13, 2pm) will be our involvement in 2013 CCACA in Davis! I'm super duper excited, and I need some super duper volunteers! The more people we have, the smoother this event will be. I'm going to create a gallery sitting sign up sheet, there will always be two people sitting at a time over the three day span of the conference. We're going to need help setting up the gallery which includes acquiring appropriate pedestals and lighting. The whereabouts of our show will be unknown to us until April 1st. Because this is our first time participating in the conference, we will pretty much have the last pick of available spaces.

I'm swimming with ideas for sculptures to present, and I want more input, more ideas, and more collaborations. I simply don't have the time to make all of the sculptures I'd like to see in our show. I'd like to go over what sculptures we have so far, what we want to put in, and who wants to make them. In an attempt to have a cohesive style and theme of endangered species, every sculpture will have to pass through a panel of judges (me, Linda, and Norah) to determine whether or not it would compliment the other sculptures, and is appropriate to the conceptual theme.

So let's have a brain hurricane for the upcoming show and get organized!

Thanks, hope to see you there

Hooooooray for clay! Soda Fire's been candling overnight, crankin up the heat slowly but surely. The kiln is breathing fire on Susana Arias' MASSIVE boats (2013 Santa Cruz Artist of the Year!) Liz squeezed in a little family of cuddly urchins, and of course I managed to wiggle in some thrown forms. Come by the art center tonight and see the soda application. Pictures of the unload on Monday.
