The Kentucky Coal Museum had the honor of hosting Dr. Brian McKnight of UVA Wise and a host of community leaders to honor those lost during the 1976 Scotia Mine Disaster and the four mine rescue teams who recovered fallen coal miners.

Monday, March 9, marked the 50 years since the disaster at Scotia Mine, where 26 miners lost their lives. Representatives from Beth-Elkhorn, Westmoreland, US Steel, and International Harvester mine rescue teams attended the events.

This event wouldn't have been possible without the support of Dr. McKnight and his students, Chad Morgan and the Meridzo Ministries, Lamphouse Coffee, the Benham Inn, the Kentucky Coal Museum Staff, and SKCTC faculty and staff.
