For today's , we are featuring "The true founder of Siloam Springs", John Valentine Hargrove.

John Valentine Hargrove, Hico merchant and former Union scout, established Siloam City on land he owned in the valley along Sager Creek in 1880. Promotion of the new town was so successful that it was incorporated in the next year as Siloam Springs.

In 1882, the Hico post office closed, and the Siloam Springs post office opened.

In 1904, Siloam Springs officially annexed the Hico townsite.

Hargrove is buried in the Hico cemetary, and his headstone reads "The True Founder of Siloam Springs".
