Did you know the Peel family is buried just across the street from the Peel Museum in Bentonville Cemetery?

From their second-story balcony, Samuel and Mary Peel could see the very burial plot they had chosen for their family. In the Victorian era, death and mourning were deeply woven into everyday life, with traditions and symbolism that often go unnoticed today.

Need last-minute plans for tomorrow, October 14? Join us at the Peel Museum as historian and author Abby Burnett explores the fascinating burial customs, cemetery symbolism, and forgotten traditions of the Arkansas Ozarks.

Discover the stories that gravestones still tell.

Calling all book lovers! There's a new book club in Bentonville, and it has a bit of a Gothic twist!

Peel Museum & Botanical Garden and Bentonville Public Library are teaming up for Reader Rendezvous, an adult book club dedicated to exploring Victorian and Gothic literature!

From haunting classics like Dracula and Wuthering Heights to captivating mysteries and modern favorites, we've got a full year of great reads and even better conversations ahead.

And what better place to discuss these stories than a historic Victorian home?

We're kicking things off this October with Bram Stoker's Dracula, just in time for spooky season!

Book club discussions are on the 4th Tuesday of each month (skipping December), beginning at 6 PM, but you're invited to arrive as early as 5 PM for a private tour of Peel Museum. On beautiful evenings, we may even take our conversations into the gardens.

Books will be available at Bentonville Public Library's front desk and the Peel Museum gift shop while supplies last.

Take a look at our reading lineup, find your next favorite book, and join us for Reader Rendezvous!

Some of the most meaningful days at Peel Museum happen when history becomes personal.

Today, we welcomed a very special family back to the Peel home. Natalie Wilkerson visited with her mother, Mary Frank Slaughter, and her daughter, Charlotte. Mary is the great-granddaughter of Minnie Belle Peel and had not been inside the home in more than 30 years.

Our tour guide Mary spent the afternoon walking the family through Peel Museum, sharing the history of the home and helping make their return a memorable one.

Having three generations together inside a place connected to their own family history was incredibly special, and we’re so happy they chose to spend part of their day with us.

Do you have a family connection to Bentonville or a story tied to one of its historic places? We’d love to hear it.

Remember that old Chef Boyardee commercial where the can followed the kid all the way home?

This little pumpkin has been rolling around Peel looking for somewhere to belong, and we think we found the perfect place: our Pumpkin Planters workshop.

Looks like this pumpkin just wants to go home with you so you should register for our class on October 8th and give it one!

For one special week each year, Peel Museum & Botanical Garden welcomes more than 1,000 fourth graders for a free field trip, made possible by our generous donors and sponsor, Avery.

Students step back in time to explore what life was like in Bentonville during the 1800s, learning about everything from daily routines and local history to the people who helped shape our community.

We’re proud to make this hands-on history experience available to so many local students each year!
