Congratulations 🎉

Nightsong is on view Los Angeles September 13 – October 11, 2025 | Tues – Sat, 6 – 10 PM

“Conceived as a “giant music box in the dark,” Nightsong transforms the gallery into a dreamlike environment where Fordjour has staged painting and sculpture amidst a live performance set. The exhibition features a four-hour song cycle of live musical performances and original scores, composed for the exhibition with no two viewings exactly alike.

Setting the stage are a group of intimate “covers” paintings paying homage to Black artistic forebears and the Harlem Renaissance, extending an art historical dialogue across generations. From there, the exhibition unfolds through a multidisciplinary interplay of painting and sculpture, each work narrating distinct moments in the development of Black music: from hush harbors and spirituals to Motown harmonies and beyond.

At the heart of Nightsong is a powerful reflection on the voice as a tool of resistance, survival, celebration, love, and transformation while also exploring tensions between expression and erasure, presence and commodification.”

‘There are a lot of people that teach karate, but they’re not Bruce Lee,’ Taylor says. ‘Jarvaise was Bruce Lee.’

Greg Rick makes powerful paintings that delve into archetypal explorations of human nature. His rhythmic works writhe with movement, blurring lines between history painting and abstraction. Like Guston’s pile-ups, Rick compresses gesture and form to provoke ideas of struggle, confrontation, and transcendence. While mining his personal experiences with the 101st Airborne, he joins a long tradition of artists like Picasso, Goya, Pippin and Léger who used paint to mourn the spoils of war.
