You are invited to attend a informative presentation at the Bethel
Historical Society, scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2026, in
the Bethel Town Hall. Our guest speaker, Mary Floyd, will present a
program focused on a quilt from the society’s collection, which will
be displayed during her talk. This historically significant quilt,
made in 1922 to raise funds for the Methodist Church of Gilead,
features 380 squares bearing the names of community members
from the Bethel area. We welcome you to join us for an engaging
presentation exploring the quilt’s history and the stories of those
commemorated upon it. Light refreshments and beverages will be served.

Annual Bethel Historical Meeting Update

Speaker Cancellation Notice

We regret to inform you that our scheduled speaker for the annual Bethel Historical Meeting, Mary Floyd, is unable to attend due to illness. As a result, her anticipated presentation on the quilt made in 1922 for a fundraiser benefiting the Methodist Church of Gilead has been canceled. Please note that Mary Floyd will deliver this talk at a future, yet-to-be-determined date.

Annual Meeting Details

Despite this change, our Annual Meeting will proceed as planned at 1:00 PM today, January 18th. The primary agenda will be the election of officers for the year 2026. The meeting will be brief, and following its conclusion, the museum will be open to all attendees who wish to visit and explore its exhibits.

During past Christmas seasons, Bethel Main Street was once adorned with lanterns, two of which were stored away in the town office garage, accumulating dust. The Bethel Historical Society received these lanterns as a donation last spring. After being restored by one of our members with a new coat of paint, they were put up on Main Street to enhance the holiday display.
