Great news! We've been awarded a $50,000 Heritage Support Grant to help preserve our home, the historic Depot. The successful grant application came about through a partnership between the ABSR Community Foundation and the Museum, with funding provided by the Indiana Historical Society, made possible by the Lilly Endowment Inc.

The award marks a significant milestone for the Museum and for the community, providing critical resources to safeguard one of Beverly Shores' most treasured landmarks.

The Depot is more than the Museum's home — it's a piece of local and national history and a cultural locus for residents and visitors to learn about our history, appreciate regional art, and connect with one another. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building stands as a rare example of the architecture and railroad heritage that shaped the founding of Beverly Shores. Generations of residents and visitors have passed through its doors, and its preservation ensures that story remains available for generations to come.

Buildings of this age and historic significance require constant, careful stewardship — from structural upkeep to weatherproofing to the specialized restoration work needed to keep original materials and character intact. Without sustained investment, historic structures like the Depot are vulnerable to slow deterioration that can be difficult and costly to reverse.

That's why this grant carries such weight. The Museum's Board of Directors has taken deliberate, sustained steps to secure the Depot's future, from assessing the building's condition to prioritizing repairs and pursuing funding opportunities like this one. The Heritage Support Grant is a direct result of that groundwork, and the funding provided will go toward preservation efforts designed not just to patch immediate needs, but to set the Depot up to stand for another century.

For a small town with a big history, the Depot remains a physical link to Beverly Shores' past — and thanks to this grant and the Board's ongoing efforts, it will remain a living part of the community's future as well.

Who'd a thought a derecho would keep you from attending Jane Cowley's opening at The Depot?

We all took a beating from the derecho that blew through NW Indiana. Between downed power lines and trees draped across roads, it might have been difficult to get to The Depot for Jane Cowley's exhibit.

But now that you might be able to finally get online, pour yourself a cup of tea and settle in with your computer to shop the spectacular art of Jane Cowley.

Jane Cowley is an oil painter whose work centers on expressive portraiture, atmospheric landscapes, and contemplative still-life compositions. As her practice developed, oil paint offered the perfect balance of precision and freedom—its slow-drying nature allowing for subtle transitions, complex surfaces, and the ability to revisit and refine an image until it reached its fullest emotional resonance. This deliberate working process remains central to the artist’s approach today. Jane continues to develop new series of portraits, landscapes, and still lifes. Through each painting, the goal remains the same: to honor the richness of the world and to offer viewers a moment of connection—quiet, reflective, and beautifully human.

We hope you'll enjoy your journey through Jane Cowley's art and will support The Depot with a purchase. https://bsdepot.com/search?q=Jane+Cowley

You can still view in person Jane Cowley's exhibit at The Depot through Sunday, September 6th.

Our roof project has begun! To repair and preserve our distinctive clay tile roof, we enlisted Slatile, one of the oldest and most experienced roof firms, specializing in clay tile roofs.

The skilled craftsmen of Slatile carefully remove each tile by hand, inspecting and cleaning them to expose the roof underlayment to be replaced. It's quite a process, but worth it!

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the Depot to help preserve it for the future.

Tonight! Join us for a reception from 5-7 pm as we kick off an exhibit of oil paintings by talented local resident Jane Cowley. It's been a rough week after the storms, with trees down, power out. Will be nice to look at some lovely art, sip a glass of wine or beer, and share war stories with neighbors!
