Les Masquees, founded in 1923, was the first women’s krewe on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. At a time when Mardi Gras was largely led by men, this group helped open the door for women to take on their own leadership roles in Carnival traditions.

Their legacy lives on today in the many women-led krewes that continue to shape Gulf Coast Mardi Gras culture.
