Diane Mcferrin - Nest Egg Studio

Diane Mcferrin - Nest Egg Studio The Art of Diane McFerrin. Living in the breathtaking mountains of North Carolina nurtures my longing to be connected and surrounded by beauty.

This search for beauty finds its expression in my art in ways that inspire my spirit and mind. My exploration of light and color is an avenue The Creator uses to draw me into His presence. From light sparkling through the needles of a pine tree to teal blue shadows of clouds falling on the mountains, everything is illuminated. My desire to capture beauty first brought me to paint en plein aire or

out in the open air. Being in the moment and painting from life was, and still is, a great adventure. But that was just the beginning of my observations as an artist. As I contemplate life in quiet times throughout the day, specific words, songs, scriptures or visions of my mind’s eye are highlighted. I often explore these ideas through my art by journaling. The ideas pour through my mind, emotions, and spirit in prayers of color. Often, these revelations or answers to prayer show up on the canvas. My paintings usually begin with a palette knife and oil or acrylic paint. Layer after layer of paint is smoothed on as I use broad strokes to cover the canvas. I will often use a razor to draw into the paint or to remove layers. The process of scraping brings new forms of hidden color and texture into the design. It is a methodical, prayerful exploration of ideas as I wait, watch, and listen for the next step to be revealed. Sometimes I incorporate words using charcoal or ephemera. Oil sticks, pastels, wax, gel medium, and paper are other elements used to give more dimension to the paintings. The result is a collaboration with my spirit and The Creator; an expression of prayer, beauty, and life on canvas.

Hello friends of Take A Hike, Black Mountain.

Thank you for all of the text, calls, and emails that we have received since Hurricane Helene hit our small mountain town. We are safe! All of our staff and family made it through the storm. We are grateful.

May of you have contacted us asking how you can help our community. We would like to make a way for you to help us as we reach out to those in need.

So far, we have been able to provide local folks with; headlamps, camp stoves, and fuel to get through our first 10 days without power or water. Locals helping locals, some we know have lost everything.

As the temperatures drop, we are sending out sleeping bags, sweatshirts, and fleece to those in the hardest hit areas of WNC. We want to continue to give and serve.

Today as we write this we still have limited power up in the town of Black Mountain, running water will not be available until our infrastructure can be restored. This will prevent tourists from coming to town for weeks, which is a huge part of our livelihood.

Our goal is to raise 25 thousand dollars to begin to cover essentials for our business, staff, and community.

Even a ten dollar donation can help cover the cost of a pair of wool socks. In this time of uncertainty, please consider helping us!

Sincerely,
The McFerrin Family
